Dr Felix Wiebrecht joined the Department of Politics in 2023.

Prior to coming to Liverpool, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the V-Dem Institute at the University of Gothenburg and continues to be affiliated with V-Dem as a Research Associate. Felix received his PhD in Government and Public Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2022.

His work is primarily based in the field of comparative politics but also spans themes of political economy and international development. It particularly focuses on three areas: the politics of authoritarian regimes; the state of and challenges to democracy in the world; and regime changes (autocratization and democratization). He also has regional expertise in studying China and East Asia specifically.

Felix's research has been published in journals including Political Research Quarterly, Policy & Politics, and Journal of East Asian Studies.

He is also a Co-Founder and Co-Organiser of the Authoritarian Political Systems Group (APSG) and Co-Convener of the PSA Specialist Group Autocracy and Regime Change.
