Research

Asterios' research focuses on computational technologies and their impact on form-finding processes, material applications, sustainability, digital manufacturing and construction. This includes tools methods and techniques for AI-Assisted Design, 3D/4D Printing, Robotics and Digital Fabrication, Parametric Design, Generative Design, Material Computation and VR/AR/MR. He has supervised 7 PhDs to completion and is currently supervising 10 more PhD thesis projects at the University of Liverpool and XJTLU.

He has wide experience in the realization of complex geometries using digital manufacturing techniques and the 'file to factory' design process. He is co-designer of the WestendGate Towers (2009-2011, Frankfurt) sustainable facade, awarded with the Solar Price 2011 by Eurosolar (European Association for Renewable Energy) and the Tree Structure Canopy (Frankfurt 2009-2010) awarded by the Association of Greek Architects in 2010. He received the RIBA's Research Trust Award in 2013 (proposal on sustainable retrofits in Britain). His 9th book, 'AI-Assisted Architectural Design, was published by BIS Publishers (Amsterdam) in 2024.
