Support with Financial difficulty
To support students the University provides a hardship fund. If you need financial support please reach out - the Money Advice & Guidance team are here to help.

Liverpool Guild of Students also offers a short-term four-week emergency loan service for students in immediate hardship which can be used for food and other essential items.

Student Finance
Check with your student finance body to make sure you’ve applied for all the loans and grants that you’re eligible to receive.
It’s also important to make sure you are getting the correct amount of maintenance loan from Student Finance. If you’re not sure or you are worried that your loan amount is incorrect you can contact our Money Advice and Guidance Team who can check this for you.
To determine your maintenance loan amount, Student Finance will look at household income during the last full tax year relative to the academic year – for example, for academic year 24/25, they will assess tax year 22/23. If the household income has dropped by 15% or more (5% if you are from Northern Ireland), you can ask for a current-year assessment. You can find further details about this on the UK Government webpages.

In some cases, you may be entitled to funding from trusts and charities which depends on individual circumstances.

Earn while you learn
Job opportunities and careers support are all available via our online careers platform, Handshake. Every University of Liverpool student has access to a Handshake account so there is no need to register – you simply need to activate your account. The platform can be used to help you find the jobs you’re looking for both during and after your studies including part-time jobs to supplement your income during your studies.
