Cecília Samel

Cecília Samel is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio/Brasil). She has a master’s degree in Arts (2018) and graduated in Philosophy (2017) at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF/Brasil). Her research focuses on photography,  contemporary art, aesthetics and philosophy of art. Her doctoral project proposes to analyse how photography is transformed in it use in contemporary art, specifically in the works of Rosângela Rennó and Sofia Borges. 
 
She joined the department for a research period from October 2023 to March 2024. During her time in the University of Liverpool, she continued to develop her doctoral project and wrote a piece for the Open Eye Gallery blog titled " Nature and indigenous representations in contemporary Brazilian photography".
