Exhibition: Before Egypt

With artefacts dating from as early as 7,000 years ago, Before Egypt delves into the prehistoric past of Egypt and Nubia, featuring the ways in which early art, culture and politics were influenced by the unique geography of the Nile Valley.

Today, Meroë is recognised academically as among the most important sites in the history of ancient Sudan, but its history remains all-but-unknown to the general public. Overshadowed by its northern neighbour, Egypt, Meroë remains Africa’s forgotten empire.
