Overview

Welcome to our exciting new course that takes you on a journey through the captivating world of Pre-Raphaelitism. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was formed in London in 1848 by a group of young and rebellious artists who were determined to revolutionise the British art scene. But did you know that Liverpool played a crucial role in the development of Pre-Raphaelitism? The Liverpool Academy awarded its annual prize to leading Pre-Raphaelite artists, making Liverpool the only provincial town to have its own school of Pre-Raphaelite artists. This course delves into the work of Liverpool's Pre-Raphaelite artists, including William Windus, James Campbell, and others, exploring their connection to the original London Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

This course aims to explore the role of Liverpool within Pre-Raphaelitism, through examining the art and artists associated with the Liverpool Pre-Raphaelite School and their connection to the original London Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Participants will gain greater knowledge of both the Liverpool Pre-Raphaelites and Pre-Raphaelitism in general, learning how to identify key aspects and tenets, and consider its significance within the Victorian art scene.
